Although I have been working in the creative arts since I graduated back in 2002 it’s only in the last few years that I have been involved in the world of illustration. Unlike most other creative jobs illustration is not priced per hour or on a day rate but per project and the price centres around the following: Usage of work – what is the illustration being used for- book cover, email marketing, greeting card, tee shirt design, advertising? Rates vary widely depending on the area of use. It is important to have this specifically defined in your contract and for further uses another license agreement would need to be drawn up. Area of Use or Territory it’s being licensed in. If the work is only to be used in the UK then the price would be lower than say if the client wanted Worldwide rights. Duration of license – this […]
I recently completed a simple wedding postcard invite for a couple of friends of mine. I loved the theme of fairies and flowers that I thought I’d share it here. I think this floral design would work well on Thank-you cards too.
It was my husband’s birthday this week and I knew I would have to bake his favourite cake – lemon drizzle with dark chocolate! As it is quite a simple cake to make and tastes delicious (if you’re a fan of citrus and chocolate) I felt it appropriate to illustrate the recipe and share on They Draw and Cook website. Here it is below- enjoy!
I was super excited to be asked to design and illustrate a set of 8 pages for UK based Magazine Mollie Makes. The brief was to include a variety of quotes and patterns and use a fresh colour palette across the work. I chose quotes that inspire me and are fun as well as a favourite colour palette I like to use – cool greens, pastel pinks, peach with a splash of gold.
I’m very excited to share that I am now represented by the Pure Illustration Agency. If you are looking to license greeting cards, wrap, stationery items please get in touch with Richard at the agency. Website – www.pureillustration.co.uk
Here is the finished design for April’s 2015 MATS Bootcamp Class set by Lilla Rogers. I really enjoyed putting together this poster and coming up with fake polaroids, postcards and drawing stationery items. I particularly loved coming up with the hand drawn lettering.
GigRower commissioned me to illustrate their 2015 Gigrower Calendar. I had to include the entire season’s gig rowing regattas and races and then pick a few from each month to illustrate. The tricky part of this project was working out the overall design, making sure all the events fitted in and could still be readable. Visit www.GigRower.co.uk to buy. I really enjoyed drawing the iconic landmarks of each place and this has inspired me to draw more buildings and monuments.
Client: Brewershirts Brief: Illustrated one colour design centred around Brewershirts ethos and quote ‘Life is short. Drink good beer.’ Visit www.brewershirts.com to see it in use.
This quote really inspired me to draw something floral and I wanted to create a design that could be transferred to a variety of mediums. Below you can see how my initial designs started and then how it has been used- I particularly like the cushions.
