I’ve recently received the printed leaflets for DairyLand Farmworld with my maps on the back and they look so cool! I think the matt paper stock they’re printed on makes them feel super special and also lends themselves to little ones scribbling on the areas they have visited. Creative direction was from the good folks at Idenna and they were pretty relaxed with how I worked the style. You can pick up one of these at any tourist point or supermarket in Cornwall that has a flyer area.
I recently took part in a collaborative project with Leap and St. Austell Printing Company. Creative Director Matt Hocking from Leap invited me to contribute as I have been supplying illustration work for them for the past 2 years and have a good relationship with them. I had to illustrate part of the story that was written by budding young writer Esme Hocking- Matt’s daughter. It was a fun project to be a part of and I especially liked the collaborative element. The project was initiated by SAPC as part of World Book Day with the aim of showcasing what they can do, as well as bringing together and marketing creative companies and design studios in Cornwall. There has been a good response to the project and it has been picked up by several newspapers and media outlets online.
Here are my new illustrations based on a fishy theme. I really wanted to create a piece which showed textures and patterns along a fishy theme. I also wanted to make sure I could carry the design through to a range of products. Below you can see how the design works for a greeting’s card or journal cover and also how it has been transferred to a one colour screen print on tea towels and cushions. I enjoyed limiting myself to this simple colour palette as it meant I had to include more textures to keep the print interesting.
